Highlighted as one of the “Coolest events of 2010” in last Sunday’s Times Style, Glade has consistently produced the most innovative and original electronic line-ups of any UK festival and this year it is shaping up to be the best yet. Having already announced an amazing array of headliners and supporting artists over the past two months, Glade has now added Etienne de Crecy, Delphic, Matthew Dear, Claude Von Stroke, Delphic, Chrome Hoof, Errors, Joris Voorn, Stereo MCs, Freestylers, Freq Nasty, Hybrid, Ed Rush, Jimmy Edgar, Foreign Beggars, Jamie Jones and Riva Starr.
The who’s-who of electronic superstars will be performing at the four-day British bender from Thursday 15th – Sunday 18th July at Matterley Bowl, Winchester.
Étienne de Crécy is known for his visually outstanding live performances with his kitted out ‘light cubes’ – if you haven’t seen this before be sure to catch this unmissable experience. Often credited as being one of the pioneers of the ‘French touch’ sound, De Crécy’s smashing drums, deep basslines and psychedelic synth meddlings are sure to keep the Glade crowd dancing. He also founded the Solid record label, collaborated with Philippe Zdar of Cassius and Alex Gopher and released the ‘Tempovision’ album along with numerous singles of his own. He’ll be performing the premier of his ‘Beats ‘n’ Cubes’ new live show.
Matthew Dear may be a chameleon, but whether he’s making more pop-oriented fare under his own name, big-room minimal as Audion, or more rigorous minimalism as False, his discography reflects someone who is a studious observer of club culture. With releases on M_NUS, Perlon and Spectral Sound he has firmly established himself as an internationally known techno artist. Joining Matthew is Claude Von Stroke, owner of techfunk label dirtybird which recently celebrated its 5th anniversary. Dirtybird has released over 40 EPs and Von Stroke has released two successful artist albums, a mix for Fabric and over 25 remixes including techno legend Kevin Saunderson.
Manchester trio Delphic evoke the spirit of Madchester’s Hacienda days in a forward-thinking, indie-rave type get up and we can’t wait to see them live. Joining them are the genre-trashing, visually spectacular Chrome Hoof and Glade favourites Stereo MCs who also smashed it at the Glade stage at Glastonbury last year.
Breakbeat stalwarts Freestylers, Freq Nasty and Hybrid will be keeping the breakers entertained whilst leftfield UK hip-hoppers Foreign Beggars make their Glade Festival debut. There are some talents that remain inconspicuous and there are some you can’t ignore. Jamie Jones is the latter. The rising superstar has already cemented an underground status in electro-tech dance circles over recent years and we’re thrilled to have him DJ for us at Glade.
These new artists join the previously announced Orbital, Simian Mobile Disco, Tricky, Jeff Mills, Magnetic Man, Green Velvet, Autechre, Krafty Kuts vs. A Skillz, Holy Ghost!, Boy Better Know, Skream b2b Benga, DJ Zinc, Seth Troxler, Craig Richards, Clark, Plastician, Fuck Buttons, The Field, Wolf + Lamb, X-Press 2, Avalon, DJ Friction and London Elektricity amongst others…
Not only are the organisers confident the line-up will be a big hit this year, but their deposit scheme has also been a huge success. Several thousand festival attendees for this year’s event have so far paid a deposit but all good things must come to an end and the last chance to take full advantage of the deposit scheme is May 1st. Finally, we’re chuffed to bits to confirm that we have the return of the Pussy Parlour after a year’s hiatus. The 1930’s burlesque Spiegel tent will be serving cocktails and host parties by Last FM and Kubikle. Arcadia will be back for its second consecutive year and will no doubt be blowing the roof off – yet again.
Glade now enters its seventh year – described as ‘Like Glastonbury for electronic music lovers’ it continues to evolve as a unique hybrid between a rave and a fully fledged English festival. Tickets are on sale for £135 and a handful of discounted student tickets for £110. Glade is also running a £50 deposit scheme until 1st May.
