Parklife Festival – Manchester’s Start

A collective of Manchester’s finest promoters, including The Warehouse Project, Mad Ferret, Trof, Now Wave, Ape and Metropolis are proud to announce Parklife Festival on Saturday, 12th June 2010, as part of the 100th anniversary celebrations of the iconic Platt Fields Park. 15,000 festival goers will be witness to some of the finest live acts and DJ’s from across the world will perform over six stages in an event that invites Manchester’s student community to celebrate the end of the academic year and the start of the summer!

With an international line-up, the Parklife Festival is set to get the City of Manchester into the summer festival mood with an unbeatable mix of DJ’s and new music, each arena offering something different at this day-long celebration at Platt Fields Park. 100 years on and a new batch of talent will be playing in front of the most passionate music fans in England. Taking place at the end of the university year, it set to be a celebration for all those who want to rejoice the end of exams for the summer. Having conquered Glastonbury last year, Mercury Music Prize-nominated Friendly Fires have been confirmed as the headliners on the main stage alongside Frankfurt’s electro house veterans, Booka Shade who will be bringing their avant-garde electro to Parklife. Scottish super-producer and number one artist Calvin Harris is carving out a reputation as one of the best collaborators around and also joins the main stage line-up. Another great edition to the bill is Radio 1 DJ Kissy Sellout, whom NME magazine described as “one of the most exciting, charismatic and entertaining DJs of the decade”. Northern Ireland electro act Japanese Popstars, Krysko and Greg Lord complete the main stage bill. Continued from previous page Issued by Idea Generation IG Contact Details

The Now Wave Stage will feature some of the best UK talent around with a headline performance from Bloc Party front man Kele Okereke who is currently working on his forthcoming solo album. Ex Fridge guitarist, Keiran Hebden has built a brilliant solo career under the alter ego of Four Tet, performing a variety of electro tracks that sway between hip-hop, break beat, jazz and folk. Other acts on the bill include Steve Mason (Ex Beta Band), Errors, Egyptian Hip Hop, James Yuill, We Have Band, May 68 and hosted by the Now Wave DJs. The Big Top will be a haven for all dance fans, with a line-up that features the great and good from the DJ world. French electronic artist Vitalic presents V-Mirror Live will be supported by the Trash founder and electro music legend, Erol Alkan fresh from a stint producing Mystery Jets new album. Simian Mobile Disco, Fake Blood, Boy 8- Bit, Mixhell and Andro complete the Big Top line-up. Ape & Metropolis Present Lost In Bass Arena 1 will be the place to be for all dubstep fans with headline act Magnetic Man live, consisting of dubstep producers and DJ’s Skream, Benga and Artwork. They perform using three Apple Macbook Pro computers, one playing drum samples and loops, one playing bass lines and the third playing lead sounds and samples. Supporting act, the Portuguese Buraka Som Sistema, who recently won an MTV European Music Award for their progressive “kuduro” slant on electronic mix will take the crowd into another stratosphere. Kuduro is a huge force in Portuguese pop music – and its leading proponents are the super-tough Buraka Som Sistema who will surely have a big following in the UK this year after playing Platt Fields. Toddla T & MC Serocee are just one of the other well-known names to take to the stage. Other DJ’s on the Ape & Metropolis Arena will include Joker, DJ Zinc, Geeneus ft Tippa & Katy B, Sbrkt & N-Type, Riot Jazz ft Broke N English and Rich Reason.

Ape & Metropolis Present Lost In Bass Arena 2 will be awash with the best Drum n Bass acts around with the pioneering DJ Hype, Andy C, Roni Size, High Contrast, Goldie and Lemon D and Dillinja amongst the star attractions. Sub Focus, Danny Byrd, Nero, and Emalkay make up the line-up, for what will be a haven for all drum n bass raver’s. The final arena is presented by Crosstown Rebels who will be presenting Rebel Rave Tour with internationally renowned minimal tech stars Damien Lazarus and Jamie Jones who will be supported by Clive Henry, Simon Baker and Deniz. Manchester is a world beater at two disciplines, music and football, so there will be a giant screen for all those who will undoubtedly want to watch the second day of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The England game against South Africa will be shown live at 8.30pm. Along with activities for the whole family including themed chill out zones, live interactive art, funfair, magicians, celebrity 5-a-side and a giant bouncy castle, there is sure to be something for everyone at Parklife Festival’s day-long party. Councillor Mike Amesbury, Manchester City Council’s executive member for culture and leisure said: “The centenary year of Platt Fields Park is packed full of fantastic events to suit all ages and tastes and Parklife Festival in particular will be the perfect start to the summer for our younger members of the community – and some of the older ones as well. We are extremely experienced at hosting high profile events of this nature and will be making the safety of party goers and the surrounding community our number one priority. Due to its location, there is very limited parking at Platt Fields Park but it is situated on one of Manchester’s main bus routes within easy reach of the city centre and surrounding areas so I would encourage anyone coming to the concert to travel by public transport.” Tickets are priced at £29.50 for adults and children over the age of 16 years; The Parklife Festival represents a new breed of outdoor music event offering outstanding musical entertainment at exceptional value for money. There are a limited number of early bird tickets available at £25 but these are available on a strictly first-come-first-served basis.
