Relentless Wakestock, Abersoch, Wales, UK
Friday July 2nd-4th
‘Europe’s largest wakeboarding festival’

If the weather is good, there’s no better place than this. Oh, er maybe The Maldives or Mauritius I suppose, but you don’t get action both on the decks and off the decks like you do down at Relentless. And boy, is it relentless. Musically the promoters have really pushed the boat out this year with the Ting Tings, Maximo Park, Eric Prydz, Fedde Le Grand, Chase & Status, N-Dubz, Pete Tong, Mr Hudson, Tini Tempah, Zane Lowe, Audio Bully’s, Plan B, Wiley, Sub Focus, Roll Deep, Scratch Perverts, Dynamite MC, DJ Zinc, Norman Jay and Ou Est Le Swimming Pool making it three days to remember. If you can forget. Plus of course you have all the usual wakeboarding action. Not heard of wakeboarding, where have you been? Wakeboarding is the latest action sport to take over the world. Born through a lack of waves and a desire to further surfing, wakeboarding has grown from it’s routes in Carlsbad, California to cover every continent around the world, from Cuba to Russia and everywhere in between. This high speed action sport is predominantly participated behind a purpose built speed boat with the rider towed behind at around 25mph where they use the boat’s wake to launch into the air, pulling technical inverts and spins of up to 1080 degrees. But hey, it’s all about the lifestyle dude.

Hop Farm Festival, Paddock Wood, Kent

Starring Bob Dylan, Ray Davies, Van Morrison, Mumford & Sons, Pete Doherty and more to be announced.

Oxegen, Punchestown Racecourse, Naas, Ireland
Thursday July 8th-11th
‘And they’re off…”

It’s easy to forget that this festival only started in 2004. Since then, Punchestown has hosted some of the world’s greatest acts and witnessed many unforgettable moments.  Down the years, many performances have stood out including The Who’s first appearance in Ireland for more than 35 years in 2006, Muse’s phenomenal headline set in 2007 and of course Kings Of Leon closing the inaugural Friday night OXEGEN in 2008. But, it’s not just the bands that make the festival so memorable.  It’s a weekend dedicated to great entertainment, where festival-goers can experience everything from the high octane thrills of the festival funfairs, the communal silliness of The Headphone Disco to the more relaxed pleasures of the campsite cinema screen. Above all though, the thing that makes OXEGEN unique, and the reason that it continues to be the ‘must play’ tour destination for so many huge acts, is the incredible atmosphere created by the fans. This year looks superb with Eminem, Jay Z, Muse, The Prodigy, Arcade Fire, The Prodigy, Black Eyed Peas, Kasabian, Florence & The Machine, David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Dizzee Rascal, Groove Armada, Hot Chip, Faithless, Groove Armada, Goldfrapp, Earth Wind And Fire, Jamie T and John Mayer amongst others. So how does this one work? Does Oxegen and T In The Park work together on their line up’s or what? Don’t forget to get a body part signed by your favourite artist in the signing Tent too, I however will be at the front punching in the air to Eminem.

T In The Park, Balado, Kinross-Shire, Scotland
Friday July 9th-11th
‘E in the park…’

From its humble beginnings at Strathclyde Country Park in 1994 to what will undoubtedly be the most successful year to date, in the lush environs of Balado, T in the Park has grown in size and influence to become one of the most important and critically acclaimed music events on the international festival circuit. Now attracting over 80,000 music fans from all over the globe each day, T in the Park is consistently a sell out success. This popularity can be attributed to the festival’s unique atmosphere, the legendary Balado crowd, perhaps unrivaled the world over and an annual line-up that is one of the most exciting on the planet. Get drooling over Eminem, Jay Z, Muse, Kasabian, Faithless, Stereophonics, Dizzy Rascal, The Black Eyed Peas, The Prodigy, David Guetta, Goldfrapp, Florence & The Machine, Calvin Harris, Gossip, Hot Chip, Echo & The Bunnymen, Carl Cox, Plastikman, Sven Vath, Fake Blood, Erol Alkan, We Are Scientists, Adam Beyer, Slam, Crookers, Tricky, Corrine Bailey Rae and Baby Shambles. Nozstock, Bromyard, Herts, UK
Friday July 9th-11th
‘Orchards, lakes, drum n’bass and beats’

Nominated for 5 UK Festival Awards in 2009 and 4 in ’08, the original overgrown party in the garden, Nozstock Festival takes fun seekers back to the grassroots of the summer festival experience. Set in the lush countryside of Herefordshire, and with eight stages set around the Orchard, Garden and Yard of a 17th century farm, nowhere could feel more like a home away from home. With the pear tree covered Orchard at the centre of the site, this focal point merges frivolous shopping, cider drinking and sofa surfing. This year will see y’all bounce to anthemic sounds from established rock outfits alongside a smooth brew of up and coming indie acts. Winding a way towards the tudor farmhouse, the Garden Stage serves up experimental sounds, punk funk whimsy, alongside iconic dance acts. Converted barns vibrate with sub-thumpings from the skilled fingertips of masters of drum ‘n’ bass and dubstep, while breaks and hard dance silence those old enough to say ‘raves aren’t like they used to be.’ Nozstock’s newest addition with their virgin year in 2009, Tribe Of Frog will be serving up a storm of neon-induced psytrance revellry down in the Coppice. Thanks to its late license and homegrown venues, Nozstock gives its punters all the fun and frivolity of a true festival, without the corporate sheen.

Shenanigans for the mini-festivaler occur off the beaten track and over the bridge in the Dingle, where workshops aplenty and theatrical splendour beckon every taste and size in investigation… Small hands meet clay and puppetry, large ones stroke the much-coveted vintage tractors. Ephemeral electro-acoustica rings out across the field and deep in the dark of the theatre, strange and intriguing behaviours ensue.

Catch a late night short film or music video from our mesmerising collections and take a detour to the comedy tent for the odd smirk and rib-busting chuckle, before the lights turn low for burlesque drama at the chime of midnight. Stanton Warriors, Sub Focus, the Blockheads, Gabby Young And Other Animals and many, many more.

The Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, New York, USA
Saturday July 10th, Midday – 8pm
‘The coolest motherfucker date of the summer – no sleep ’til Brooklyn y’all…”‘

It was announced this morning that legendary Long Island, New York Hip Hop trio De La Soul will be headlining this year’s Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival. Produced by Brooklyn Bodega, this is the sixth year of the event, which has featured previous headliners including Big Daddy Kane, Ghostface Killah, KRS-One and last year, Pharoahe Monch.
“To be honest, we have been trying to get De La Soul to headline the Festival since we first came up with the idea in 2005.  On many levels they are the perfect flag bearers for our mission to use Hip-Hop as an agent of change. For over 20 years they have traveled the world inspiring MC’s, producers, DJ’s and fans alike.  I can think of no better artist to usher the Festival into its new home in Brooklyn Bridge Park,” said Wes Jackson, the executive director of the event.
BKHHF @ THE Tobacco Warehouse and Brooklyn Bridge Plaza (26 New Dock Street, Brooklyn, NY). Tickets go on sale Monday May 3rd at BrooklynBodega.com, the official home of the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival. On this date, organizers are launching the Bodega Soldiers Program, which is their way of thanking the members of the Bodega Family who have turned out time and time again to make the Festival into NYC’s largest Hip-Hop cultural event.
