A Huge Austrian Festival of Electronic Music And Art…

Get your passports, jump on a plane and get over to Graz in Austria, May 20th until May 25th. This looks fabulous. A real forward thinking festival enjoying everything that’s new and creative out there that combines music from around the globe. A late night walk and dance could take you from the headiness of Brazil’s Sao Paulo, over to Paris, a jump to London, Berlin booming out and even the European Capital of Culture Linz. As the organisers say, “springnine reflects the bright glittering spectrum of innovation from around the world.” 20,000 people jumping around with 200 DJs, musicians and visual artists with a really cool, chilled vibe – basically a really friendly event. So there’s the more educational/industry side of things with workshops, talks about electronic art and music and the new Red Bull Academy Sessions with big name artists going face to face with you all. The main venue is Dom im Berg which is inside a mountain within the city centre, the festival is also staged in great clubs such as Postgarage and PPC, in all – a total of 17 different locations within this historic city. So what about the music? Phew, well where do we begin? Laurent Garnier playing a full live show for the first time in Austria. The Acid Symphony Orchestra who are amazing. London boyz Urban Nerds taking over a club for two nights bringing over the likes of Tayo, Zinc doing a special house set, A1 Bassline, the Tomb Crew and Zero G. Labels showcasing their acts include G-Stone, Warp and Afro Acid. And here come the other champions of music… Kruder & Dorfmeister, Gossip, Fever Ray, Jazzanova, the Beat Junkies, DJ Pierre, Goldie, Phuture 303, the Bomb Squad, Radio Slave, Beardyman – but also a whole host of beautiful orchestras which playing in an event that also features NWA’s Professor X – it sort of shows you how diverse springnine is. Me? I’m doubling up at the Urban Nerds night’s, whilst DMC’s Sally McLintock who is also heading down and reporting on this very special event for us will probably, be absoltely everywhere! See you there…
