Reaching the highest high to the most subterranean of lows, Williams can bring audiences to their knees as readily as he can get them swinging from his wrecking ball of worldly monologues through to raps that pull no punches. Managing brute force and fear without airs, ‘African Student Movement’ is political word association of austerely disciplined simplicity speaking volumes, whereas ‘Telegram’ announces hip-hop’s demise like a sergeant major while thrashing axes bring forth the guillotine. With Zack de la Rocha ready-made to step into the breach, SW’s sing-song tenor makes his realisations and pleas even more uncomfortable; an education.
