Idris Muhammad – The very best of: Boogie To The Top – (Robinsongs)

If the words Jazz and Funk go together like something you can’t get enough of then I cannot recommend this best of Idris Muhammad’s CTI / Kudu output between 1974-78 highly enough. For the full lowdown check Charles Waring’s invaluable sleeve notes but suffice to say the music is as invigorating as anything electronic with the words: mind, body and soul sounding particularly apt. The punchy, ’Theme For New York City’ seamlessly blends a Horn punctuated score together while dancefloor gems ‘Could Heaven Ever be Like This’ and ‘Turn This Mutha out’ still sound as vibrant as ever, with the Disco inflected ‘Boogie To The Top’ capturing the mood excitedly. Perfect for sunshine listening and/ or night-time dancing.
