Austrian Liz Neumayr was working on her minimalist art pop with flat mate Kele Okereke of Bloc Party fame, then in early 2005 Matt Lord (guitars) & Ben Esser (drums) joined Liz, and Ladyfuzz became a fully fledged trio, touring around the UK with The Rakes, The Futureheads, and of course her flat mates outfit Bloc Party. ‘Kerfuffle’ is a collection of edgy post punk funk theatrical pop, that’s a little bit arty & a bit too clever clever, but it does have it’s moments. Highlights include the opening ‘Hold Up’, which starts off like The Slits, then develops into a Lene Lovich vibe. ‘There’s Women In Studio One’ is an intense funky fuck up The Pop Group would be proud of. Current single ‘Bouncy Ball’ takes a leaf from Elastica’s book, and title cut ‘Kerfuffle’ gets all misty eyed over child like chaos. Ladyfuzz sound like the score / soundtrack to an underground happening play in a squat, where it’s free to get in & everyone’s a vegan.
