What is Anjunabeats’ secret? In all the compilations they’ve released over the last few years, there is barely a dud amongst them – and the eighth in the series is most definitely one of the best so far. The second mix is the jewel in the crown here, starting on a pretty ambient tip with two tracks from Andrew Bayer, before growing into more powerful stuff from Sushi. Then the vocals begin to take over, with Lange’s ‘Live Forever’ and Above & Beyond’s ‘Thing Called Love’ especially good, dropped with precision and without any cheese. CD1 is more of an upfront proposition, and again it’s Andrew Bayer who features strongly in collaboration with Boom Jinx, while Bart Claessen’s ’90 Nights Of Summer’ is a real treasure for the hot weather. Reliable, yes – but not predictable, and hitting all the right buttons for the adrenalin rush that all the best trance music has.
