Nascente Records celebrate fifteen years in the business this year, and they really couldn’t celebrate it any better than with their excellent ‘Beginners Guide To..’ series. This latest installment is helmed by Dom Servini, a man who knows a thing about African music and Afro-fusion, displaying his knowledge and the breadth of the musical fusions across three CDs. Some names you’ll already be familiar with – MAW, Quantic Soul Orchestra, Recloose, Blaze, Zero 7, etc – whilst names like Baaba Maal, Salif Keita, and Ramses Revolution, may not be immediately familiar, but they will be by the time you’ve listened to this selection. A great choice of music with informative sleeve notes, you really cannot go wrong with this series.
