Gilles Peterson brings a rich variety of soul and broken beat to his Brownswood Bubblers, and here they are again with an invigorating set of songs and instrumental gems. The brassy backing of Katalyst’s ‘How Bout Us’ is infectiously good, and this after two excellent opening salvos from Bullion and Joey Negro and the Sunburst Band. Meanwhile a lazy ‘Spiral’ from The Invisible is most enjoyable, as is the clarinet driven ‘Arun Ghosh’ from Aurora, even if Jukes’ ‘Something Important’ comes across a little bit flat. These compilations always lead to new discoveries and scouring of the net for the latest sounds, and with Peterson’s finger firmly on the pulse we owe him gratitude for sharing his new talents with us.
