Jean Claude Ades / Rony Seikaly – ‘East West EP’ – (Swings Records)

When I first had the opportunity to hear Jean Claude Ades’ track “We All Are Dancing”, it then followed that my interest in the rest of his catalogue would be ever-after piqued. Call me a sucker for anything that has a bit of a French house sound to it, but Jean Claude’s production style certainly fit in nicely with the little niche of electronic music genres that I like to call “my favorites”. Fast-forward a couple of months – Jean Claude Ades and Rony Seikaly have teamed up to release a new aural offering entitled “East West EP”. The EP contains three tracks, “Oh Yeah”, “Perfect Match”, and “Mood That I love”. The first of the two tracks exist largely as instrumental tracks, while the third includes some nice vocal action, as well. What struck me the most about this release is the melting pot of different styles that have congealed into these three tracks. Elements of progressive house, French house, Italo-disco, and a good dash of 80’s flavor thrown in for good measure make this EP a pleasurable listening experience. While the EP itself left me longing for some good vocal hooks, in general, I would consider this EP a worthwhile listen if you’re a fan of the aforementioned genres. While this EP doesn’t seem to exist solely for the purpose of dance floor devastation, I still found it difficult to manage to keep myself from moving when the bass dropped. I’ll be keeping my ears open for future releases from Jean Claude Ades and Rony Seikaly. The “East West EP” was released on June 20, 2012.
