Huge in their native Japan, Jabberloop are the latest in a strong tradition of club-based jazz groups to cross over to the international stage (think Sleep Walker, Soil & Pimp Sessions, Kyoto Jazz Massive, etc). They moved from Kyoto to Tokyo in 2004, developing from instrumental hip-hop to a fuller, band styled output, and this EP collects four of their tracks for closer inspection. “Look To The Sky” captures that jjazz-danceaesthetic perfectly – pounding rhythms and hhorn playmarried to an optimistic vibe that makes it’s six minutes seem way to short; “In Groove (Extended DJ Mix)” is the other dancefloor aimed cut, seemingly taking it’s cue from some unheard Patrick Adams disco productions, 4/4 beats tied down under a fearsome groove. “Ugetsu” and “6th Continent” display a more traditional approach but ably show the variety of their styles. Another hit for the terrific Mukatsuku label.
