RIVA STARR – IS IT TRUE EP (MOON HARBOUR) (09/11)

Few people have had the sort of success of Rita Starr. The East London based artist is a real hit maker who brings together underground sounds and more accessible styles on many labels including his own Snatch. Now he gets a step up and releases a full EP of his own on Moon Harbour. It comes after having appeared as  remixer a few years ago and is a fine effort featuring three top cuts.

First out of the blocks is It Is True featuring DNCN. This one is seven slick and slinky minutes of warm, bubbly tech house that sweeps you up and traps you in the playful groove. Big hi hat ringlets and cheeky little synth stabs make it so, with muffled vocals adding intrigue. Akitune then goes even deeper and more loopy, with warm, rubbery drums and muted diva cries all percolating and taking you higher and higher with a great sense of tension and teasing. When it finally blows, so will crowds on the floor. The DJ Tool version is designed to play with your crowds and get them in raptures and closes out another highly effective EP.
