Like his mate Sascha Funke, there’s something subtly compelling about the often-mesmerising output of Mr Kalkbrenner, who impresses again with a pair of cerebral-but-leg-friendly belters. The title cut rides a nagging static- pulse with sepulchral organ riffs topped by ringing tones and an underlying tension keeping the bass firmly in the guinea-pig’s gonads. As it builds the atmosphere gets more haunting but majestic. It could really hypnotise a crowd. The flip’s ‘Ick Mus Aus Dit Milieu Heraus’ is cheekier and more urgent with larger drop action. Still one of the finest labels.
