The Rogue Element

1. The Kills – Cheap and Cheerful (Sebastian Remix) – Domino
Stonking glitchy rock number a l’homme Francais – top top stuff.

2. MGMT – Kids (Soulwax Remix) – Columbia
Unsurprisingly, Soulwax come up trumps yet again on this one  – BIG EPIC

3. The Rogue Element – Hive – Exceptional
New single from yours truly, out on Exceptional in October

4. The Ting Tings – Be The One (Japanese Popstars Remix) – Columbia
Playing this out is like getting your head kicked in would be, if getting your head kicked in didn’t hurt and possibly result in hospitalisation.

5. Blowfelt – Killa Blow – CDR
OLD SCHOOL. Dredged up from my murky past, a welcome reacquaintance with an old comrade.

6. Wiley – Summertime (Bart B More Remix)
This one is stripped down and bouncy with a killer vocal – works really well as an opener for me.

7. The Rogue Element – Escalation – CDR
Secret battle weapon action.

8. Charlie Fanclub – Jet – Work It Baby
This is nutso, gnarly saw waves and swooshing action, as you might expect from a record so named

9. A- Trak – They Say Whoah (Boyz Noise Remix) – Boyz Noise
Nice and moody semi-breakbeat (ooooh!!), good mid-set number for me.

10. Disco of Doom – The Click – Passenger
OK, so it scares the shit out of 90% of dancefloors, but I still love it.

THE ROGUE ELEMENT –  A short history
This autumn marks the official return of award winning producer and DJ, The Rogue Element aka Ben Medcalf. Already a household name within the breaks community The Rogue unfolds his varied production skills and delivers two brand new slices of cutting edge cross genre dance-floor electronica in the shape of ‘Hive’ and ‘Vices’ (out October 20th via Exceptional)

A taster from The Rogue’s latest recording escapades sneaked out last July with ‘Panic Attacks’ and ‘Sidewinder’ – a radical step forward with in-your-face electronics, insistent hooks and unpredictable twists and turns which raises the curtain for The Rogue’s 2nd artist album set for release via Exceptional early 2009. In a similar vein ‘Hive’ and ‘Vices’ explore new territories, developing a new sound to create a uniquely idiosyncratic blend of techno, breakbeat, and electro, a direction which has led to recent acclaim and support from such varied luminaries as James Zabiela, Etienne de Crecy, Audiojack, Meat Katie, James Lavelle, DJ Hell, Autokratz and the Japanese Popstars.

The Rogue Element is DJing at Chew The Fat’s 11th birthday bash at The End on October 10th.
