BASTI GRUB – TINGOG + POEMUFFIN (DIGITAL TRAFFIK)

Digital Traffik is on a fine run of form right now. The label keeps on serving up fresh and interesting new cuts that are left of centre and interesting as well as being seriously groove driven. Next up is Basti Grub, an accomplished producer who has done it all over the years. Here he combines house, minimal and tech into great new forms.

Second track Poemuffin is actually my pick here. It is a silky and smooth track with thumping rubbery drums and foreign language words spoken over the top. As slithering and zithering synth line snakes its way over the top and this one truly is a fresh and original offering. The other cut is more direct and less spooky. Called Tingog, it is filled with fine sound recordings of an actual party, so cheering voices and claps and so on, and that adds a great and authentic atmosphere to the woodpecker hits and cycling drums below. Overall a fine EP.
