If dancing was an Olympic sport, then Great Stuff really would be on to something here. As it is they’ve entered into the spirit of Beijing 2008 by releasing a compilation with a track representing each country, 24 in all. Gold medal honours are shared, falling between the opening tracks on each disc – Tibet’s Makossa & Megablast, featuring the low mantra of Kuchok Yoenten, and Japan’s Tokyo Black Star, who bring synthesized warmth to their track. Other highlights are a raucous Atomic Hooligan for England, deepness from Portugal’s Rui Da Silva, and winning tracks from Gusgus, Steve Angello and Tomcrafy. Etienne De Crecy, meanwhile, goes a step too far in his inclusion of a marching band to capture that half time moment. An entertaining concept, though perhaps a few too many of the other tracks are on the minimal side of things.
