Sad that Stay Up Forever’s multi-faceted vinyl empire is being clipped by technology butting out the human element. I could never imagine music as mighty and dangerous as this coming from a silly little silver disc or a dildo lookalike with wires. There is genius afoot here as label honcho Julian Liberator – always harder than the rest – hitches up with D.A.V.E. for a spot of glorious sonic mangling. It’s the sounds and ideas exploding on this vinyl that’s advanced to levels beyond the machines. ‘Moog Rocker’ takes the JB’s’ immortal synth drone from ‘Blow Your Head’ and harnesses it onto an acid monster breakbeat behemoth. ‘The Haunting’ is a spooky military stomp. ‘X-Porn’ is a low-thudding knob-friendly sex nightmare. ”Shoplift’ is juddering and vicious with hopscotch groove manipulations and other-wordly frequencies. You can’t let this sort of quality go unheard because DJs want to impersonate their local bank manager.
