Omid 16B
Sequential 001
Sexonwax

Unless my brain has turned into a baboon’s scrotum, those 16B releases on Eye Q were mouth-watering and pretty groundbreaking exercises in quality electronic dance music. There’s certainly no doubting that this first instalment of Omid’s three-part Sequential series is a fairly monstrous burst of future-funk executed with pressure-cooker subtlety. ‘The Tone’ rides an alien-but-warm funky bass patten which enjoys its own unpredictable stiffie amidst splashing drums and subtle touches like the odd rude squirt. There’s a nice air of hanging back, ready to ejaculate any time, a trait shared by the sublime ‘To Run To’, its fat, squirming bassline and swelling layers of synths and percussion building into something quite spectacular. For the third track I’m going to break with tradition and quote the press release, which describes, ‘the throbbing, nu-swing, freebass arrangement of “Dub The House” sounds uniquely like the 6400 Crew on Yoshitoshi, on ketamine-n-n-n chasing GiorgioMoroder to meet the Bellville Three in the 21st century in an elevator with 16B.’ Couldn’t have put it better myself!
